Hello! My name is Vy Nguyen. I am a part-time student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in the pursuit of her Bachelor's degree in Film and Media Arts (8 classes left, yay!) I have taken time off, reevaluating my career but ultimately landing on my value of higher education. Purusing it part-time meant continuing my work in film.
Growing up, a career in film felt out of a reach, a dream - knowing well that I was in for a gamble of a career, but I knew deep down it would have been a disservice to myself if I did not try. Not trying felt against the person that I am and who I was becoming: someone who tries their best.

Not sure where this fiery ethic and headstrong personality of mine came from but perhaps, it is in the way I hold deep admiration and adoration for my grandparents, how they have built their careers from nothing to bring my Mother, sister, and I to the United States as immigrants and to make something of ourselves beyond the reach of our home country Vietnam.

I bring a sentimental touch to each project that I part-take in, from my writing, to my photos, and Art Department. In Art Department, I create worlds that are alive and enriched in a character's history. As a multi-disciplinary artist, I utilize different mediums to assist directors in bringing their creative vision out of the scope of their imagination.

As a director, I explore human relationships and the complexities of childhood and memory. I hold a personal connection to many of my stories but my goal is to tell stories of others in ways they want to highlighted, shining light on underrepresented communities and niche cultures. I linger on stillness, long silences, and mundaneness of the world around us. That said, I am an artist that is adaptable, detail-oriented, and mendable whose best interest is in elevating a project to fit its creative needs. If that means unworldly flares, neon colors and chevron patterns (please don't ask for this), let's do it! I remain curious and eager. I am a always a collaborator and a learner at heart.

Outside of making movies and creating art, I enjoy cooking, listening to music, and spending time with friends, and family.
